Why go: The city’s most important monument + panoramic views
Built during Arab rule on a hill dominating the city, it became the largest citadel raised by the Arabs in Spain and today it is the most visited landmark in Almería. After the Christian reconquest it was renovated by the Catholic Monarchs and divided into three walled enclosures, featuring the Palace of Al-Mutasim, the former mosque converted into a church, Torre de la Vela and the Torre del Homenaje.
